Did you know the Bluetick Tavern has a vegan chef? And Amy Rimmer has embraced Bluetick’s pub atmosphere with multiple vegan comfort food entrees, and Blount County is a better place for it.

Vegan Choices at Bluetick

I’m delighted to have a restaurant nearby with so many vegan choices. Here is what is on the menu:

Spaghetti and Beyond Meat ‘Meatballs’

My favorite entree. Amy makes the meatballs in-house. They have a lovely smokiness.

House made Beyond ‘meatballs’ on fettuccini with marinara sauce and plant-based parmesan.

Beyond Meat Burger

Grilled Beyond meat patty, lettuce, tomato, & onion on a toasted bun.

Of all the plant-based meat alternatives, Beyond is my favorite, and this burger does not disappoint.

Mediterranean Tofu Bowl

Grilled herb marinated tofu, baby spinach, roasted broccolini, heirloom tomatoes, charred brussels, mushrooms, onions, basmati rice/quinoa blend, sun-dried tomato pesto.

This is a gorgeous bowl filled with roasted vegetables and grains. I love the texture of the tofu.

Mushroom French Dip Sandwiches

Portabella and button mushrooms on a hoagie bun, with vegetable au jus and horseradish sauce.

This entree surprised me. While I enjoyed the mushroom medley, the horseradish sauce was delicious. Although I’ve never been a horseradish fan, I want more of this.

Pizza

Order any of Bluetick’s pizzas with vegan cheese.

In addition to the plant-based entrees, they have an extensive salad menu, just in case you are in the mood.

About the Bluetick Chef

Amy Rimmer is a local gal. Her vegan story is like mine. We both were vegetarian for a long time and about 6 years ago converted to a vegan diet.

She was inspired to put the vegan entrees on the menu because she knows first-hand how difficult it is to find excellent vegan food in Blount County. And it gets tiresome to have to drive to Knoxville, or even Asheville, to find plant-based options.

She recognizes that restaurants lose customers if they don’t provide vegan choices. First, of course, by not offering vegans anything but a salad. But they also lose out on hosting larger groups, because gatherings are influenced by where the vegan in the group can eat. And if the vegan gets to choose a restaurant, they will likely want more than a salad. That means the restaurant with yummy options will get the group’s business.

Visit Bluetick Tavern

Bluetick is located in downtown Maryville, with parking next door. Get directions. They are open Wednesday through Sunday, from 11 am to 10 pm. The vibe is casual, definitely a tavern atmosphere. I addition, they offer an extensive bar with beer on tap and many large-screen TVs tuned to sports channels.

We’re lucky to have a vegan chef in our community in charge of creating plant-based entrees. Thankfully, she knows what we want.

We’re grateful to you, Amy, for making Blount County a better place!
