Check out these sustainable gift ideas for the vegan in your life. Buying gifts for vegans can be complicated, mainly because people choose the lifestyle for different reasons. Some people seek better health, while others want to improve the environment or reduce animal cruelty. Or all of the above.
But, in a nutshell, the best vegan gifts help vegans eat well, live well, and nurture the environment. Your vegan friends and family will love products that do not contain meat, dairy, eggs, leather, down, fur, wool, and silk. And products that are produced sustainably.
If you want to know more about why people choose to be vegan so you can better understand their gift wishes, read my post from 2021, How To Find Compassionate Vegan Gifts They’ll Love.
Why Sustainability is Important
Sustainable gifts do not harm the environment. That means they minimize the use of resources and use renewable resources. For example, sustainable clothing is compostable and made from cruelty-free materials such as linen, flax, and cotton. Interested in knowing more about sustainable fibers? Also, sustainable products are fairly produced. Manufacturers do not exploit workers or animals. Workers receive a living wage and work in safe conditions. Plus, they exploit no animals in the production process. Another aspect of sustainability is zero-waste products. For example, find a store that ships in paper packaging instead of plastic containers.

An Experience
Don’t buy anything at all.
A beautiful way to provide sustainable gifts is to offer intangibles such as experiences.
- Help them cross an item off their bucket list.
- Take them forest bathing so they get their nature prescription
- Take them to a yoga class.
A Donation to Their Cause
Sponsoring an animal adoption fee or an animal at a farm sanctuary is a welcome gift. If you don’t know where to donate in your vegan’s honor, Animal Charity Evaluators can help. Their recommended charities for 2022 are:
Traditional Gifts
If you want to give a present your changemaker can unwrap, here are some ideas.
Books
- The Korean Vegan Cookbook: Reflections and Recipes from Omma’s Kitchen by Joanne Lee Molinaro. This is the second year on the list for this gorgeous cookbook. You can read my review on my other website, Vegan Blount County.
- Ministry for the Future by Kim Stanley Robinson. A scary but hopeful novel about a group working on climate change.
- Any of Melanie Joy’s books. Joy writes about the psychology behind eating meat and guides vegans in living with omnivores.
- The Compassionate Chick’s Guide to DIY Beauty: 125 Recipes for Vegan, Gluten-Free, Cruelty-Free Makeup, Skin, and Hair Products by Sunny Subramanian. A classic book with easy-to-follow recipes for vegan products. My favorite is the Forever Young Anti-aging Cleanser.

Beauty and Home Products
- Eco Roots provides beauty and home products that are vegan, cruelty-free, and shipped in packaging that is 100% recyclable.
- A local vegan suggested products from a zero-waste mobile refiller such as Knox Fill.
- Eat Drink Toolkit from Bambu. Bambu even has bamboo plates.
- Plant-based Soaps. Vegan.com has a list of plant-based soaps. But consider shopping locally for this gift, because it is so fun to pick out gorgeous soap bars and enjoy their scents.
- Here is a creative idea from my local vegan community. A bird feeder or a gift certificate to a wild bird store such as Wild Birds Unlimited.
Food and Drink
- Hera the Dog Cocktail Kits. Vodka brand that supports animal rescue organizations.
- A gift card to a vegan restaurant.
- Miyoko’s Creamery. She features a vegan cheeseboard.
- Vegan chocolates. Vegan.com has a review of vegan chocolates. Chomp Chocolates is one of the few stores that offer vegan milk chocolate. The assortment I ordered was awesome; even the non-vegans in my family enjoyed them.
- A subscription to Purple Carrot offers vegan meals or meal kits delivered to your door.
- Plant-Based on a Budget Meal Plan. This website offers free vegan meal plans but you can upgrade to plans that teach you how to cook yummy vegan meals for less than $25 a week.
